Just a mintue in October

I used to do these Just A Minute posts all the time. They're a monthly meme started by August Street, but she no longer blogs. I love her meme so much I think I'll start doing them again. It was the only meme I was able to keep up. It's also fun to look back through the old ones and see what you were doing that moment in time... anyways I'm going to be keeping the Just a minute legacy going, join in if you like.

So here we go.

Reading...... finally finished Zadie Smith's On Beauty. Next I'm going to read her 'White Teeth'. Also the interview with my sister in WATIM #23.

Buying........Cameras, well mainly looking and thinking over which one to get, undecided whether to get the Holga or LC-A+

Listening...........Foals, Foals, Foals. I love these guys!

Watching......not alot. Any good movie, tv show recommendations?

Loving..........exploring my new home town and weekend road trips. Also seeing the first pictures of the Daydream Lily x Element range instores.

Planning......parties! I promise details coming soon.

want to play along? full details on the game are here...

Element/Daydream Lily Collaboration

~~~~~~♥~~~~~~~
~~~~~~♥~~~~~~~

I'm so excited to be able to FINALLY share this with you all! Earlier this year I worked on a Daydream Lily inspired collection with Element Eden for summer 10/11. The capsule collection includes outfits, homewares and accessories all in a whimsical, delicate 'daydream lily' style. The collection was then shot by photographer Steve Gourlay in Courtney Brims' house (who also did the illustration for in the collection!).

I was involved in all the steps of creating it... from working with the Element design team to helping style the shoot. It was such a fun and amazing experience!

The collection is going to be instore in a couple of weeks! crazy! (I'm still pinching myself)

To celebrate Element and I are having some parties. The parties will be Gold Coast, Sydney and Melbourne over the month of November . I'll be blogging more details, including dates etc soon.

Photographer Interview: Ann H

I've been thinking about adding interviews to the blog for awhile now, and thought id start out with some of the amazing photographers who inspire me. First up is Ann He, at only 15 Ann is taking photos that absolutely messmerise me! Here I have a little chat with her....
-----------------------
Name: Ann He
Age: 15
Location: Dallas, Texas
Website: http://flickr.com/photos/quicklikesilver or http://annhe.com

You're only 15 yet your work seems to be from someone much older! How long have you been taking photos? and how did you get started?

Wow, thanks! I've been photographing in general for about a couple of years now. I first got into it after seeing the works of Zhang Jingna, Lara Jade, and Nirrimi Hakanson on deviantArt, but my inspirations and references have evolved a lot since then!

I'm always curious as to what cameras and films photographers are using. Do you have a favorite camera/film?

The 35 mm film cameras I use are really very cheap. My minolta XG-m and a canon rebel 2000 are the ones I use most often, and they are wonderfully reliable. I actually bought a medium format Kiev 88 this summer and I would definitely definitely shoot with that camera all the time if it wasn't such a hassle! The film I use 90% of the time is fujifilm 200. It's incredibly cheap as well (I'm a total stinge) and I'm kind of in love with its infidelity to the actual colors of the scene.

You seem to have an amazing eye for light! how do you find locations for your photos? is there a certain time of day you know will make better pictures?

Haha thank you! It's a habit for me to stare out of car windows. Honestly, if you ride in a car with me you’ll hear me squealing about the absolutely perfection of some retro neighborhood or lake or woods we just passed. Other than that, I may have an idea for a shoot, and I’ll google to find possible locations that would work for it. My favorite favorite favorite time of day in regards to lighting is that 10 minutes after the sun goes completely down and before it’s too dark to see much at all. The light is so soft and quiet, and even though it’s dusk it seems as though everything is illuminated. The colors on the film turn out rich and nostalgic like a dream. If you look through my photos, I tend to always start shooting during the late afternoon when the light is harsh and directional (yuck!) and all through sunset to dusk. There are definitely advantages to light at all different times of the day—I love the golden glow that you get when shooting under a shadow during midday.

Any tips for people getting started in photography?

Pay attention to your surroundings—the light, structures, details, colors. Definitely experimenting with different styles and techniques!

Thanks so much Ann! visit Ann's flickr or website to view more of her work.

Project Patchwork

Have you heard about Project Patchwork? I've been meaning to blog about it for aggggeeeees (Well at least since I discovered it on The Design Files)

Project Patchwork is the work of creative lady Lizzy Wilson. Lizzy has brought together 27 of Melbourne creatives to make a 'Crafty Ladies and Gents Quilt'. Each patch in the quilt has been designed and sewn by a local Melbourne artist including some of my absolute favourites Kat Macleod, Amy Borrell and Cat Rabbit (squares are pictured above).

The quilt is going to be raffled off at Craft Victoria on the 18th October to raise money for Australian Cambodia Foundation which funds an orphanage in Cambodia run by an Australian, Geraldine Cox.

Tickets are only $2 each and you can get them online NOW at Project Patchwork. There's also two other quilts up for grabs.
