Now you're just somebody that I used to know

You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness
Like resignation to the end

Secret Squirrel Botanica SS11/12

Secret Squirrel have collaborated with jeweller and graphic designer Elke Kramer to create two botanica themed prints for their new spring/summer collection. Both are stunning! My favourite is the silk screen print inspired by the art of flower pressing and specimen collection. I posted my favourite looks here but the whole collection is now up on their website.

tiny rock collections

I have a bit of an obsession when it comes to vintage combined with my nerdy science side. I collect old maps and old science textbooks with illustrations. I basically went a little nuts in the secondhand book store for a 1950's copy of Gray's Anatomy. So really these tiny rock collections from Cori Kindred are the perfect combination of science nerd and vintage, oh and mini stuff, I love that too. Now which one to get...

Jeannine Tan :: Photographer Interview

This was orginally posted on Leeloo as part of my guest blogging there. I'll be sharing the interviews I did for Leeloo on the blog here over the coming weeks.....

First up is an interview with young Melbourne photographer Jeannine Tan who I blogged about a little while back here.

Name: Jeannine Tan
Age: 17
Location: Melbourne, Australia
Favourite Equipment: 50mm lens

Have you always loved photography? How did you get started?
I picked up my parents camera when I was around 7. I didn’t quite love it then because I couldn’t focus correctly no matter how hard I tried. It quite a stressful period in my life! I really started loving it when I played around with all the buttons and found the macro function. I realised I could capture so much detail in a little photo and it totally amazed me. It still does, really.

Tell me more about the tumblr project, it sounds exciting! How did it come about? and was it just for New York Fashion Week?
Oh, it was exciting! Rich Tong from Tumblr sent me a gem of an email asking if I would like to attend New York Fashion week with 23 other bloggers. Of course I said yes! As well as attending fashion shows, we also got to meet amazing people such as Oscar de la Renta and Nina Garcia.

What about Oyster Magazine, I love the photos you took for them. How did this come about?
Thank you! While we were exchanging emails about featuring my photography, they asked if I would like to cover Rosemount Australian Fashion Week for them.

What is your favourite type of photography to do? And what has been a favourite project…
I love photography whenever I can be creative and have a bit of fun with it. At the moment, my favourite type is fashion photography but I’m very mouldable and love many things. My favourite project so far would have to be shooting for Oyster magazine. I was kind of scared to fly to an unfamiliar city, stay at a hotel, find locations and take photographs by myself. I was positive something was going to go wrong but everything went perfectly and it was so rewarding seeing the final pictures.

Do you have a photograph that you love? what is the story behind it?
I love this photo (above). I love the golden light, the wind and her expression. Everything came together really nicely for this picture. The photo is part of a shoot I did with NZ designer Kelsey Genna.

Any tips for people getting started in photography?
Ask friends if they would like to model for you, be creative and try out new ideas, bring your camera everywhere, make yourself some websites and get yourself out there

Just A Minute in ...July

Reading...Currently slowly reading Surrender by Sonia Hartnett.

Listening...To Björk's new single Crystalline. I'm so excited for her new album. I wish she would come to Australia again!

Making...today I'm wrapping up orders for shop customers, making them into pretty presents.

Watching...So many movies of late, both older ones and new. Into the Wild, The American, Prozac Nation, The Rite, Unknown. TV Shows I've been watching Season 7 of One Tree Hill (It's not the same without Lucas and Peyton) and Angry Boys.

Loving...My puppies. Coffee. Sitting in front of the heater.

Trying...New Google+ not really sure what I think of it yet. I do like the circles ability, but the rest just seems too similar to facebook.

Just A Minute... is my all time favourite meme! Feel free to play along, the rules are here.

Flossys Fancy Handmade

This is a guest post from Dane of Tornadoes and Tigers.

I’d like to introduce myself, my name’s Dane and I run the blog Tornadoes and Tigers. I live in New Zealand with my amazing wife who I’ve been married to for over two years now along with my beautiful 6 month old daughter James. I’m constantly inspired by all things creative and today I would like to share with you all Mae Bunny and Layla Bunny. Crafted by Flossy’s Fancy, a busy New Zealander who finds any spare moment to be creative and work on for her crafty endeavours.

Her work is generally centred around an individual piece of vintage textile or ephemera, rich history and craftsmanship. Constantly collecting vintage embroidered items, doilies and tray cloths, Flossy makes up unique creations using these finds, some even appearing on her bunny softies.

If you’d like to get your hands on one of the Bunnies above, along with a couple of other treats, you can do so via her Felt store.

A big thanks to Liss for having me here today, enjoy : )

Mermaid Beach & Surfers Paradise

photos taken with my Superheadz ultra wide & slim

In another month it will be one year that I moved from Melbourne to the Gold Coast. Honestly it is somewhere I never thought I would live. But in the year I've lived here I've seen another side of this town. It's not all parties and metremaids. I've found cute cafes, opshops, secondhand bookstores, a place to develop my film and vintage markets. I've made new friends and met local bloggers. I love my job here and I love that in summer everyone rides their bike down to the beach and has BBQs in the park. It's also nice to be back living in a smaller town rather than the big city. And the weather and sunshine has been amazing for me! Not just for my state of mind but also for my wardrobe!! I can wear all the dresses and pretty skirts I wanted to in Melbourne but was too cold.

Anyways I thought I'd share some pictures I took with my Superheadz while out exploring my new home. First five are from Mermaid Beach and the rest are from Surfers Paradise.

Hope you are all having a nice weekend. x

Finders Keepers Markets

On the weekend was the awesome Finders Keepers markets, and this time I was a stall holder for my shop StyleMilk. It was really different to be the stall holder instead of the shopper, to be on the other side of the table but just as much fun! It was such a great weekend for Jen and I, and was so nice to see people enjoying our shop and the designers we stock.

Thank you to all the lovely people who purchased something from our stall and to everyone who stopped by to introduce themselves or to say high.

Jen and I are hoping we can do it all again come the next Brisbane Finders Keepers. In the mean time we are busy doing a stocktake and updating the store post markets crazyness!

PS. If you were wanting a That Vintage Tea Party piece, we have only a few of the dinner plate and teacup & saucer rings left!

PSS. Big thanks to sweet lime & spiced tea and fizzle out for the kind words on our stall! Be sure to have a peek at their blog posts and reviews of the day.
